The Roaring 20’s – Gatsby’s era – was a time when the US was strong, business was booming, and everyone was celebrating the end of a long and brutal war. Prohibition, which was the outlawing of alcohol, led to an explosion of illegal clubs and bars, known as speakeasies. The party scene was booming, and gangsters made enormous amounts of money supplying illegal liquor – increasing the popularity of cocktails. The new-found wealth and widespread optimism created wild parties like no others…until now!
